The British Society of Gerontology (BSG) Annual Conference is one of Europe’s longest-running and most respected gatherings on ageing. The 55th edition in 2026 will be hosted by Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, UK, a globally recognised academic city. Unlike clinically focused geriatrics meetings, BSG places strong emphasis on social gerontology – how ageing intersects with housing, labour markets, social care, communities, inequality, migration and public policy.
The conference brings together sociologists, economists, social workers, psychologists, architects, planners, voluntary-sector leaders and practitioners working directly with older people. Topics typically include care homes and home-care services, loneliness and social connection, gender and ageing, intersectionality, digital inclusion, retirement and work, and the lived experience of later life in the UK and other countries. UK-specific issues such as social-care funding and the integration of health and social services are discussed alongside international comparative perspectives.
For Indian NGOs, think-tanks and senior-care providers, BSG 2026 is an excellent space to present qualitative research, share programme evaluations and learn from UK community projects such as dementia-friendly towns, intergenerational housing, and time-banking schemes. The environment is very supportive of early-career researchers, with dedicated workshops and mentoring. Oxford’s compact city layout makes networking easy, whether in formal sessions or informal gatherings in colleges and cafes – ideal for building partnerships between UK and Indian organisations working on ageing, caregiving and social protection.
